Solar Electrical Work in the Nambucca Valley
Les Craggs Electrical handles the licensed electrical component of solar installations for homes, rural properties, and commercial premises across the Nambucca Valley. We work alongside your solar panel installer to handle everything that requires a licensed electrician: inverter wiring, grid connection, switchboard work, and compliance certificates.
Solar electrical work has specific requirements under NSW regulations and the Essential Energy network connection rules. We understand the local grid, the paperwork, and what's needed to get your system connected and compliant.
Why People Call Us for Solar Work
- New solar system being installed. Inverter wiring and grid connection needed
- Battery storage being added to an existing solar system
- Switchboard needs upgrading to handle solar export and battery load
- Rural property installing off-grid or hybrid solar system
- Solar system not exporting to grid. Electrical fault needs diagnosing
- Inverter replacement. Licensed disconnection and reconnection required
- Compliance certificate needed for existing installation
What We Cover
- Solar inverter electrical installation and wiring
- Grid connection and meter configuration
- Battery storage system electrical installation (e.g. Tesla Powerwall, SolarEdge)
- Switchboard upgrades for solar and battery loads
- Dedicated solar circuits and isolators
- Off-grid and hybrid system electrical work
- Fault finding on existing solar electrical systems
- Certificate of Compliance (CCEW) for all notifiable work
- Essential Energy network connection documentation (via ASP Level 2 accreditation)
Grid Connection and Compliance
Connecting a solar system to the Essential Energy grid in NSW requires specific documentation and must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor. We handle the electrical installation and issue the necessary compliance certificates. As a Level 2 ASP-accredited contractor, we can also manage network connection applications and metering work directly with Essential Energy where required.
Battery Storage Systems
Battery storage systems like the Tesla Powerwall, Enphase IQ Battery, and similar units require licensed electrical installation. This involves dedicated circuits, correct sizing of switchboard protection, and in some cases upgrades to your existing board. We assess what's needed and price it clearly before starting.
Rural and Off-Grid Properties
Rural properties in the Nambucca Valley hinterland are well suited to off-grid and hybrid solar setups. We work on properties across the valley and hinterland and understand the specific requirements for rural electrical installations, including standalone power systems, generator integration, and remote switchboard work.
Where We Work
We carry out solar electrical work across Nambucca Heads, Macksville, Scotts Head, Urunga, Bowraville, Valla Beach, and surrounding rural properties throughout the Nambucca Valley. We also cover Kempsey, South West Rocks, and Stuarts Point for the right jobs. View our full service areas.
Common Questions
Straight answers to questions we get regularly.
Yes. All electrical wiring work associated with a solar installation, including inverter connection, grid tie-in, and switchboard work, must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor in NSW. The solar panel installer handles the panels and racking; a licensed electrician must handle all fixed electrical work. We issue a Certificate of Compliance for all notifiable work.
It depends on your existing switchboard. Older boards, particularly those without dedicated solar protection or with limited circuit capacity, may need upgrading before a solar system can be correctly integrated. We assess your switchboard as part of the quoting process and will tell you clearly whether an upgrade is needed and what it will cost.
Yes, in most cases. Adding battery storage to an existing solar system requires an assessment of your current inverter compatibility, your switchboard, and the battery system you've chosen. Some older inverters are not compatible with certain batteries. We'll advise you on this before quoting. If everything is compatible, the electrical installation is generally straightforward.
This can be caused by a number of issues: a fault with the inverter, a tripped isolator, a meter configuration problem, or a wiring issue. We can diagnose the electrical side of the problem. If it turns out to be an inverter or panel fault, we'll point you toward the right person to deal with it.
